Saints Sports Roundup: Week Nine
March 15
Women’s Lacrosse @ Concordia. W 24-2.
The Saints scored 18 goals in the first half to cruise past WHAC opponent Concordia, 24-2. Marissa Cirino, Kayla Parks and Taylor Swartz led SHU with four goals apiece while Aliisa Mason, Audrey Jarrad and Natalie scored three goals apiece. Mason also led the team with two assists while Williams led with six groundballs. Making three saves and earning the win in net for the Saints was Tabitha Ferguson.
March 17
Men’s Volleyball vs. Robert Morris. W 3-1.
The Saints took the first set 25-19, before losing set two 26-24. SHU then came back to win the next two sets 25-22 and 25-23 to win the match 3-1. Matthew Dugan led the Saints with 19 kills and 22.5 points while Keegan Crawford led with 45 assists and three service aces. Emilier DeJesus had a team leading 15 digs for SHU.
Men’s Volleyball @ Cardinal Stritch (Wis.). W 3-0.
The Saints took all three sets by a score of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-15 to sweep the match for a 3-0 victory over Cardinal Stritch. Matthew Dugan and Tyler Hubbard-Neil led the Saints with 8 kills and 8 points apiece while Emilier DeJesus led with 10 digs.
March 18
Men’s Volleyball @ Morningside (Iowa). W 3-0.
The Saints won all three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-17 to earn a 3-0 match victory over Morningside. Matthew Dugan and Tyler Hubbard-Neil finished with 15 kills apiece while Dugan also led with 18 points. Keegan Crawford led SHU with 37 assists while Emiler DeJesus led with 19 digs.
Men’s Volleyball vs. Culver-Stockton (Mo.). L 3-1.
The Saints dropped the first two sets 25-17 and 25-16 before coming back to win the third set 25-21, SHU then dropped the fourth and final match 25-11 to lose the match 3-1 to Culver-Stockton. Matthew Dugan and Tyler Hubbard-Neil led the Saints with 11 kills while Hubbard-Neil also led with 10 digs, 16 points and three service aces. Keegan Crawford added a team-leading 32 assists for SHU.
Women’s Lacrosse vs. Indiana Tech. L 14-9.
The Saints took an 8-7 lead into the half, but got outscored 7-1 in the second half to fall 9-14 to WHAC opponent Indiana Tech. Kayla Parks led the Saints with five goals and eight groundballs while Marssia Cirino added two goals to go along with a team-leading two assists. Taking the loss in net for SHU was Tabitha Ferguson who finished the contest with 16 saves.
March 19
Womens’s Lacrosse @ Davenport. L 29-10.
The Saints were outscored 18-8 in the first half and 11-2 in the second half to fall 29-10 to WHAC opponent, Davenport. Kayla Parks led the Saints with five goals while Marissa Cirino added three goals. Aliisa Mason contributed a goal to go with a team-leading two assists. SHU goalkeeper, Tabitha Ferguson, led the team with six groundballs as she took the loss in the net and finished with 11 saves.
Baseball vs. Marygrove. W 12-1.
The Saints jumped out to a 4-0 run lead in the first and never looked back as they downed WHAC opponent Marygrove, 12-1. John Watts finished 4-4 for the Saints with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI’s. Alex Robbins and Carson Wlad also finished with two RBI’s. Kyle Kuhr pitched a complete game finishing with eight strikeouts to earn the win.
Baseball vs. Marygrove. W 5-4.
The Saints scored in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off Marygrove for the 5-4 victory in game two of a triple header. Carson Wlad went 1-3 for the Saints with a three-run home run while Freddy Jehle went 2-3 with two runs scored. Matthew Bondy walked with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to bring in the winning run, giving him his second RBI of the game. Ben Finn earned the win as he pitched two perfect innings.
Baseball vs. Marygrove. W 8-7.
The Saints once again scored in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off Marygrove for the 8-7 victory in the final game of a triple header. Freddy Jehle went 3-4 with a double, walk, and two RBI’s and five runs scored for the Saints. John Watts hit a sac fly in the bottom of the seventh to bring in Jehle, giving SHU the victory and triple-header sweep. Earning the win for the Saints was Landon Lumbrezer as he pitched 2.1 perfect innings.
