SEASON PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball

Coming into this season, the Siena Heights women’s basketball team is ranked fifth in the preseason conference poll, but it is looking to end the season with a higher ranking.

Last season, the team went 19-12 overall, and the players want even better this year.

“We have the potential to really compete this year and we have a great group of women that really work hard,” senior Jaaliyah Arrington said.

Being a senior, Arrington said she knows she has to step up as well since great leadership has graduated.

“I’m personally looking forward to seeing how I respond in being a leader,” she stated. “I feel like the upperclassmen this year have big shoes to fill when it comes to leading the team this year.”

The team is heading to Puerto Rico in December to play two games in five days. But the most exciting games to watch are going to be the ones at home, according to the players. This is Davenport’s last year in the conference, so the team is ready for a win. Also since their loss to Madonna last year in the first round of conference play, the Saints said they are ready for redemption. They said they also have high expectations, including the national tournament.

“I know our team can do it,” sophomore Haley Hoffman said.

Players to watch this season are the seniors Arrington and April Watson. Also a sophomore, Clara Waidley, is going to be someone who is ready to shine.

“She has been working all summer, and I think it will for sure pay off this season,” Arrington said.

The girls started their season Nov. 9 against Spring Arbor.
