Student Organization Summit Successfully Connects Student Leaders on Campus
The Student Organization Summit (SOS) took place in the University Center community room Aug. 31. The event counted with the presence of members from all thirty clubs and organizations that are currently active at Siena Heights University.
The event was hosted by Director of Student Engagement and Assistant Dean for Students Gabriel Dunbar. The SOS brought all the organizations’ leaders on campus into the same room to set some ground rules and goals for the 2016-17 academic year. Also, Dunbar introduced Emily Peters as the new Graduate Assistant of Student Engagement.
Director of Career Services Sara Chrenko brought up ways in which her team is available to help students in areas related to self-assessment, internships and job shadowing, graduate school search and application, among other services.
The Student Government e-board presented on some important changes on the Student Government Constitution and explained how the allocation process will be conducted this year. Its goal for this year is to have a smooth allocation process and to sponsor interesting campus projects.
To have all 30 clubs represented was a great achievement, according to Student Government President Roccola Chesnick.
“I’m glad we had that big turnout because, in the past, we haven’t had a night to connect all the student organizations,” he said. “Being able to see everyone really sets the stage to further the goals that we have.”
When asked about what he expects for the first allocation meeting, Chesnick said, “I’m looking forward to see the new events and ideas that the organizations are planning and how they can better our campus.”
