Feb. 10

Women’s Basketball vs. Aquinas, 68-61 W

A 24-14 fourth quarter advantage propelled the Siena Heights women’s basketball team to a 68-61 win over Aquinas. Jaaliyah Arrington came up clutch in the fourth quarter, scoring seven points in the final four minutes of the game to help seal the comeback win. April Watson was the leading contributor for the Saints, recording a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Men’s Basketball vs. Aquinas, 65-63 L

Whereas the women’s basketball team was able to come back from a deficit in their win, the men’s basketball team lost its lead late in the game against Aquinas. SHU led by 10 with five minutes left, but a late 15-4 run by Aquinas tied the game up. With .06 seconds remaining in the game, Aquinas’s Bryan Mitzner was fouled and made both his free throws to give Aquinas the two point victory. George Goodman led the way for SHU, tallying 19 points and six assists in the loss.

Feb. 12

Women’s Track & Field @ Grand Valley State

Phoenix Duncan was the lone first-place performance at the GVSU Big Meet, clearing the high jump bar at 5 feet, 7.25 inches (1.71m). Duncan is currently ranked first among all women high jumpers in the NAIA. SHU Track and Field will be back in action Saturday for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at Aquinas.

Men’s Track & Field @ Grand Valley State

Two school records were set for the men’s track and field team at the GVSU Big Meet. In addition to winning the event, Richard DePalma broke his own school record with a 17-3.5 (5.27m) launch. Also for the Saints, the 4X400 meter relay team of Zakary Haines, Joshua Miles, Juarrezz Smith and Dominic Muessig broke the school record with a time of 3:14.94, good enough for second in the meet.

Men’s Volleyball @ Davenport, 3-0 W

The Siena Heights men’s volleyball team had their way with Davenport, sweeping the Panthers by set scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 31-29 on their way to a 3-0 sweep. Matthew Dugan led the Saints with 19 kills and seven digs, while Tyler Hubbard-Neil contributed eight kills and seven digs in the win. Jeff Hardman finished the night with 30 assists.

Feb. 13

Men’s Volleyball @ Calumet Saint Joseph (Ind.), 3-0 W

The Siena Heights men’s volleyball team extended their winning streak to six after sweep Calumet Saint Joseph (Ind.) 3-0 by set scores of 25-8, 25-23, and 25-15. Tyler Hubbard-Neil led the Saints with 11 kills and teammate John Kalugar chipped in with 13 digs in the win. With the win, the Saints improved to 7-3 on the season.

Women’s Basketball vs. Northwestern Ohio, 56-51 W

Another strong second half for the Siena Heights women’s basketball team propelled a comeback win, this time at the expense of the Northwestern Ohio Racers by a final score of 56-51. April Watson led the Saints with her double-double performance of 18 points and 13 rebounds. The win improves the Saints to 18-10 on the year.

Men’s Basketball vs. Northwestern Ohio, 63-56 L

The Northwestern Ohio Racers got off to a quick start that the Siena Heights men’s basketball never fully recovered from as the Saints fell 56-63. George Goodman led both teams in scoring with 21 points. The loss drops SHU’s record to 9-18 on the season.

Feb. 14

Competitive Cheer @ WHAC Championships, 4th of 5

The Siena Heights competitive cheer team placed fourth out of five teams at the WHAC Championships with a score of 79 points. Davenport won the event with a final score of 90.75 points. Concordia placed second, followed by Lourdes in third and Aquinas in fifth. The Saints will be home for their next competition Feb. 20 for the Siena Heights Invitational.
