New Faculty Focus: Callie Clare
Siena Heights University welcomed new faculty member Dr. Callie Clare last fall. She moved to Michigan in August and started teaching in the Humanities Division.
A native of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, she taught popular culture and folklore part-time at Northern Kentucky University before coming to SHU.
Now Clare is part of the communication faculty at SHU. Last semester, she taught intro to communications, communication theory, intercultural communication and the LAS class 441 justice and peace. This semester she is still teaching intro to communications, communication theory and now along with those she is teaching LAS 141 diversity in communications which is a freshman class.
Outside of class, she said, “I love the outdoors. I have heard from so many people that there is a ton of things to see here in Michigan. I cannot wait until summer so I can be outdoors and go exploring.”
Clare is on the board of directors of Rabbit Hash Historical Society. She also wrote a book called “Potions and Notions: The Legacy of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky” in 2011.
She said a fun fact about her hometown is that there is a dog for a mayor. It all started out as a fundraiser to raise money for the historical town, since the board community is nonprofit. People donate one dollar for a vote. The dog won the vote, and since then there have been three dogs elected as major.
“It has become a tradition now,” said Clare.
