“First of all, I’m most thankful for being alive and for my father and mother. I am thankful for running track, because is relaxing and helps me get rid of bad energy. I am thankful for the neighborhood I live in Detroit, because it is safe and peaceful compared to most neighborhoods in Detroit. I am thankful for education, because there are so many others like me who don’t have the opportunity to go to college. But I do.”

“I am thankful for all the things I have now. I am thankful for my life because it is a free gift from God to be alive. So many people are going through wars, poverty, droughts, but I am still alive. I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful to have been given a chance to pursue my education here in the U.S. by the Dominican Sisters, who brought me here from Kenya with a scholarship. I am thankful for courage and strength, because despite the daily challenges I face, God still grants me the grace to keep going in life.”

“I am thankful for the opportunity to attend a four-year university. I am the first of my entire family to attend one and closing in on earning a degree. I am also thankful for my health and ability to still play football at the collegiate level. I have received tons of memories throughout this time and I am happy to have built relationships and brothers in the process.”
