Adrian’s Art-a-Licious Festival Highlights SHU Artists

Fri. and Sat., Sept. 21-22, downtown Adrian hosted the 6th annual Art-A-Licious Festival. Over 80 local artists participated in event filling Main and Maumee Streets with various art booths, entertainment, and food.
Siena Heights University (SHU) participated in the festival, iphone 5 reconditionné displaying student art selected by the faculty of the Visual Arts Program. Art by students, faculty and alumni were all exhibited. Art-a-Licious showcased ceramics, painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media and art activities. Connie McComb-Brown, 2011 SHU alumni from Tecumseh, displayed her newest digital prints of angels, and Scott Woerner, 1986 SHU alumni from Adrian, showed off his celebrity air-brushed mirrors.
Gail Pelpant, a painter for the past 40 years, was joined this year by her husband Paul Pelpant, a retired principal of Lenawee Christian School, who recently discovered his artistic ability in ceramics. Many of the artists gave demonstrations of their talents. Ben Jamin, a teacher’s assistant at Adrian College, gave a demonstration of ceramic wheel throwing. Amy Philp, from Adrian, showed her skill by sculpting with clay.
The annual “chair-ity” event continued to be a big attraction with 59 chairs decorated by various community artists. The chairs were placed in local businesses and throughout the streets. Bids were taken for the chairs over the weekend and ended at 5:15 pm on Sat. The money from the auction will be used to support future Art-A-Licious festival. Bids for the chairs ranged from $20.00 to $385.00.
