SPECTRA FILM REVIEW: Spotlight**

Directed By: Tom McCarthy – R – 129 mins – Release Date: November 20th (Limited) – Open Road Films – Bio/Drama

Spotlight – The true life story of the 2002 Boston Globe Pulitzer Prize winning investigation on the Catholic Church, and the 80 plus priests who were accused of molesting children across the country – is boosted by a top-notch cast who are distinctively at the top of their respective games. I would expect a slew of Oscar nominations (again) for Michael Keaton, and a Best Supporting Actor nod to Mark Ruffalo (who very well could win) on their revolutionary performances. The film is dauntly directed by Tom McCarthy who has not only crafted one of the best newsroom films of the decade, but ever. McCarthy, who directed The Visitor, has a harrowing eye for turning some minor jests of journalism into an edgy suspense thriller. Each scene unravels perfectly, setting up the next big pay off with an overwhelming sense of closure. Spotlight, is at times hard to swallow (especially considering all those folks out there who are Catholic) but the movie is so specific today as it was twelve years ago, and a movie you desperately need to witness. Rachel McAdams, Stanley Tucci and Billy Crudup round out this cast of A-listers in EASILY one of the best films 2015 has to offer.
