Review: Eli Roth’s Bloody ‘The Green Inferno’

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

Directed By Eli Roth – R – 105 mins – Horror – Release Date: September 25th 2015

Eli Roth, a director who is very noteworthy for putting college aged kids into perilous situations. As is the case with most of his films (ala Cabin Fever, and of course Hostel). His latest, the 2013 made film then later shelved, Green Inferno is no different. A group of peace seeking activist  decide to hitch up with a local (shady) wealthy businessmen to protest the destruction of a native village for monetary gain. Only to be taken captive by an indigenous cannibalistic tribe in the amazon. Ouch. What follows is not for the faint of the heart. Granted the film is rated R for things like ‘Aberrant Violence and Torture’ so consumers purchasing a ticket know the feast they are in for. Roth sheds no mercy on the good doers as they are ‘literally’ teared apart limb from limb, or brutally (albeit grotesquely) mutilated on screen. Yet, the film still feels less than what Roth is truly capable of producing. For any horror enthusiast who knows how to handle the gore of it all will perhaps find the heaping they so desperately are seeking. Any OTHER casual movie goer with a weak stomach should stay very clear. Grade: B-
