SHU Fiesta Brings Different Experience to Campus
As the sun started to sink, the music started playing. Friday night Siena Heights University hosted a SHU Fiesta in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. This event was hosted by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion as well as SPARHC.
The fiesta was open to faculty, students and the Siena community. Lawn chairs were scattered across the lawn of Trinity Garden from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Some lucky students didn’t even need to leave their dorm to enjoy the energetic music from the Fiesta.
Performing live for this special event was the musical group Los Hermanos Villegas. Throughout the night they played a wide range of music for the crowd. From traditional Hispanic music to classic songs that everyone knew, the Los Hermanos really knew how to get the crowd going.
This free event also provided free food. There was a make your own nachos station which had delicious tortilla chips, cheese, sour cream and salsa to top them off. The beverage provided was sweet lemonade that kept people coming back for more.
In front of the live band was a designated space for people to dance. One could either sit by and munch on some chips while watching others dance, or go join the crowd and dance along to the festive music. It was great to see the Hispanic community take in others who did not know how to dance to the music and teach them the steps.
“Despite my lack of decent dance moves, I had a wonderful time on the dance floor two-stepping the night away to a Hispanic classic,” said freshman Paige Dean.
The Fiesta gave busy students a chance to get away from their homework, let go and relax.
As the music boomed and the lights flashed behind the band, everyone got to enjoy a little time away from the real world. The Siena Heights Fiesta brought Hispanic Heritage to SHU and let people experience something different for the night.
