Jackson, MI- The Jackson area and surrounding community has enjoyed Meckley’s Flavor Fruit Farms wholesome fun, seasonal treats, vast apple orchards, farm animals and a 50’s-style gift shop for 56 years.
At the beginning the 2012 season, Hailey Berta, an employee, said that the farm’s primary concern was their apple crop as the spring frost had killed nearly “90 percent of the crop and only 5-6 of the 20+ varieties that were planted survived”. Despite this loss, she says the fresh-made apple cider and donuts are still selling strong. Krystal, a first-timer to the farm, brought her husband and two young songs along for the trip. The family favorite was the animals and the cider and donuts. Kenzie Fairbanks, 13, who came to Meckley’s with her aunt, uncle, and three siblings, said “the ice cream is delicious!” Her favorite part was feeding the baby lion exhibited in the exotic animal pen.
At Meckley’s there is an abundance of entertainment for all ages and despite recent crop challenges, the donuts are still warm and the cider is still fresh! The farm is open Fri-Sun, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Memorial Day through Christmas with special events throughout the fall, including this next weekend’s event, Oct. 27, “Dog Adoption Event.”
