Goaltender Ryan Mailloux led the way with 10 stopped shots as well to anchor the defense.
Saturday back in Davenport, Iowa, the Saints headed out in search of a seventh straight victory against a stout Missouri Baptist squad. At the end of the first half the Saints trailed by three goals and were sluggish to start out the contest. In the second half however, the Saints came out with a new level of intensity behind Acton and John Holowaty with a total of four goals for the Saint. Mailloux added 15 total saves in the game and the Saints were able to claw back and pull ahead for an 8-6 win over Missouri Baptist.
Baseball
Last week the Saints participated in three games all against conference foe Aquinas. On Saturday a double header was played on the road and fell short early in game one. After the first inning, the Saints were behind 3-0 before closing the gap 3-2 midway through the second. Aquinas answered with four more runs to lead 7-2. Once again the Saints trudged back with a four run third thanks to a single from Joe Williams which brought two in. Aquinas answered with a run of their own and followed up with a three run fourth inning splurge to make it 11-6. The Saints never had enough to make another big push to close the gap, losing game one 13-8.
Game two held similar instances, as the Saints trailed 7-1 in the fifth inning and struggled to find their footing. Dennis Sharp helped the Saints get back into the game with a two run single to cap a four run inning in a Saints rally. The inning ended too soon however and the Saints fell in game two 7-5.
Sunday the Saints went up against Aquinas for a third time in hopes of coming away with a win. Action started in the fourth with a one run inning for the Saints and a three run inning for Aquinas. The next three innings were droughts for the Saints who scored just one run while the hosts tacked on eight more more to take a 11-2 lead going into the eighth. Both teams scoreless in the eighth turned into a three run splash for the Saints in the ninth. It wasn’t enough however, as the Saints fell in game three 11-5.
Softball
The Saints took part in a double header this past week against Madonna on Sunday. In game one, the visiting Saints were allowed a single hit in the 7-1 loss which stood to bring the only score for the Saints. Kelsie Abbott hit an RBI double which brought Mariah Boss.
In game two, the Saints suffered a 2-0 deficit in the third inning but would have a chance to retake the lead later on. In the sixth inning, the Saints had a bases loaded opportunity, and Boss was able to score on a wild pitch from Aquinas. This would be the sole bright spot however as the Saints were unable to continue in the rally.
