The Millennium Falcon makes it’s return to the screen in over thirty years!

In case you might have been living under a rock this past long-holiday weekend, On Friday November 28th (black Friday) JJ Abrams gave fans something they have been eagerly waiting for since word broke out a few years ago this was actually happening – a first look at the next generation of Star Wars.

Not only did we get that first look, we got a trailer in the form of 88 glorious seconds of woeful delight. Emotions were flying, new characters have been introduced – and obviously, most importantly, the on screen return of the Millennium Falcon in over thirty years. Some fans have reacted to the storm-trooper being revealed without a helmet (the first time that’s happened). But, the most notable criticism was that of the new light-saber design, It has become the victim of an onslaught, albeit clever, internet memes

I do, however, think the world can sigh a little peacefully now that the first trailer has arrived. I have complete and total faith in what Abrams will do with this beloved franchise. Many fans were speculating that he would quote “ruin” the longevity of what Lucas created over three decades ago. I honestly think it’s the best thing to happen to the franchise (Lucas not being in the directing chair). Lucas had an act for going back and tweaking little minor things through the years, and I can honestly say that I don’t even know if you can find a pristine “original” print of Star Wars anymore. Lucas made headlines a few years ago when the complete Star Wars saga was released on Blu-Ray with new features and effects that, let’s just say, were not in the original copy. There is an old saying..”if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”..a saying Lucas needed to hear vehemently.

The sad news is we have to wait over a year till next December when “The Force Awakens” thrusts into theaters. Many will make their hastily predictions, I have total and complete optimism and will entrust most of my childhood into what Abrams and company will create. For now, check out the trailer (if you already haven’t) – and begin watching it over and over, (I’m almost up to 20 views..whoops..make that 21) – and yes that is in fact Andy Serkis doing the voice-over narration.
